Poás, Doka, La Paz Waterfalls - Best of the Central Valley

Day 2 — Highlights of the Central Valley and the best introduction to Costa Rica.
A short walk through gnarled elfin cloud forest from the museum and visitors center, the overlook at Poás reveals the otherworldly color of the mineral dyed crater lake ringed by geysers, steam vents and fumaroles.
Down the slope of the volcano the Doka coffee plantation gives you a great overview of the whole cafe process from field to the cup for the finest quality beans.
Walkways and stairs reveal the stars of the show at La Paz waterfall gardens - five of the most amazing cataratas in Costa Rica - and above the falls the aviary, butterfly garden, serpentarium, frog and hummingbird gardens give you a preview of what you might see in the parks and reserves.

Hotel Arenal Springs Resort (3 Nights)

Day 3 — Next stop La Fortuna and the rolling countryside setting of Arenal Springs Ecoresort. Sip a drink on your private terrace while enjoying the exuberant tropical gardens and the best views of Arenal volcano. Relax this evening because tomorrow the adventures start in earnest.

Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge

Day 4 — The Río Frío and ever changing seasonal Lago Caño Negro make up a wetland refuge that includes some of the best wildlife viewing anywhere in Costa Rica. Visit the protected breeding grounds of dozens of species of aquatic birds that's also home to three species of monkeys, both types of sloths, caiman (cousins of crocodiles) , turtles and even bull sharks by covered jungle riverboat. Lunch included.
Arenal Volcano Hike

Day 5 — Arenal Volcano dominates every view from anywhere in the region, but to really see the eruptive action and lava flows you need to be in the right place at the right time. The right place is the observation clearing at the end of a short walk through the rain forest and the right time is late afternoon and early evening when your guide will accompany you on the volcano viewing hike.
Baldi Termale Hot Springs

After the thrill of Arenal rumbling and erupting you're in for a relaxing evening at Baldi Hot Springs enjoying the geothermally heated mineral waters as the volcano continues to rumble in the background. The kids area (big kids or little) features water slides while the adults can enjoy a more sedate romantic atmosphere and swim up bar. Between dips towel off and enjoy a leisurely buffet dinner (included).
Barcelo Playa Tambor Hotel (3 Nights)

Day 6 — The Barcelo Tambor Beach Resort winds around a huge free form pool and along the shore of Playa Tambor on the southern Nicoya Penisula. The on-site ecological park, casino, dance club and theater with nightly entertainment guarantee there's never a dull moment - unless of course you want a little quiet, then feel free to grab cold beer or other beverage of choice (included) and have a seat under a palm tree to watch the waves wash in.

Barcelo Tambor Tours
Day 7 — There's no shortage of things to keep you busy at the resort, but there are also tempting optional tours. If you like to swing, ask the concierge to reserve a tee time at Los Delfines Golf & Country Club, SCUBA resort dives and certification courses give you access to the amazing marine life of the warm Pacific waters, and our personal favorite is hiking through the tropical dry forest and on the deserted beaches of Cabo Blanco absolute nature reserve at the very tip of the Nicoya peninsula (prices vary for optional tours)
Explore Playa Tambor

Day 8 — The western shore at Mal País blocks most of the force of the Pacific surge and tames the waves significantly on the leeward side of the Nicoya peninsula. This makes Playa Tambor one of the calmest beaches in Costa Rica and excellent for swimming. The gentle waves also make for great visibility when snorkeling.
Adiós ¡Hasta Luego!
Day 9 — Hit the beach for one last stroll or swim then shake the sand out of your flip-flops and pack them away until you can join us again. We'll make sure you arrive at the international airport the requisite three hours before your international flight.
