In nearby Rosario de Naranjo, Vista del Valle Plantation Inn is one of the most beautiful BandBs we’ve seen. It sits on a coffee and citrus farm, on the edge of a forested 500-foot-deep gorge that is a protected nature reserve. For this reason you might not want to stay there with small children. A little road leads to the river below and a 300-foot waterfall. Private cottages are furnished in a simple, elegant Japanese style and surrounded by lovingly tended gardens. Some overlook the reserve, as does the poolside dining area. Most have outdoor showers and private sun-bathing patios. Suites in the main building have balconies and views. The turnoff is just after the Rafael Iglesias bridge, going west on the Interamerican Highway. From there, it’s five kilometers on a gravel road. Signs mark the way. Recommended.
