La Fortuna Falls Trailhead

There is a parking lot and information office at the entrance (open daily, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; admission $6). If you want to walk down to the bottom of the falls, keep to the right on the ravine trail. The trail has steps built into it at the steepest parts, and there are guardrails. The force of the waterfall is such that swimming is not possible. There is a place to swim if you take a trail to the left near the bottom of the falls. Don’t try this hike if you have high blood pressure, asthma, or diabetes. The hike is an exhilarating workout—it took us about 45 minutes to descend and huff and puff back up again.
