A much longer and higher cable ride. You have to be at least eight years old or weigh between 60 and 240 pounds. It is more thrilling than the Original Canopy Tour, with cables up to 770 meters long. Our kids loved this one, too, when they were 11 and 13. Our 18-year-old researchers gave this canopy tour one of their highest ratings: “For people who want to go fast on long cables that are high in the air while still in a beautiful forest.” There is some hiking involved and some very high cables (over 100 meters in the air), and it can be windy at the highest point. Their handlebar pulley system enhances speed and safety but reduces what you can see from the air. Braking is done by the guides. The Skytrek office is in “downtown” Santa Elena next to the bus stop, but the reserve itself, which protects 563 acres of forest, is on the road to San Gerardo, a bumpy 20-minute ride from Santa Elena. The SkyTrek near Arenal Volcano is does not involve hiking and starts with a ride in an electric tram (see Arenal section).
