Virtually guarantees that you will see quetzals in their reserve between November and May. The Serrano Obando family guides are intimate with the birds’ hangouts and habits, but even if you’re unlucky, the guided hike is lovely and punctuated with curiosities: huge cipresillo trees that naturally hollow out in their old age, and marine fossils in the rocks beside one of their creeks. Most visitors spend the night in the comfy, heated cabins because quetzal sightings are most likely in the early morning, but you can also stop in for a guided tour.
