Catarata Savegre TrailSan Gerardo De Dota, Costa Rica
 ©Sue & Ray, Toucan Maps A superb short hike to take from any of the lodges in the San Gerardo de Dota area. A well maintained trail along the Río Savegre with railed stairs on steep sections and a steel bridge so you can cross the river to reach the first waterfall easily and safely (1.2 km). This is sometimes called cave falls because of the opening that allows you to get behind the water. From here the trail gets a little steeper and rougher until you recross the river on giant logs and rocks (where another steel bridge used to be). The last 100 meters down to the Catarata Savegre is very steep and slick but the view is well worth it. (total distance 1.9 km) If you\'d like some different scenery on the return walk bear right at the top of the steep section and you can follow another trail that parallels the river but about 200 meters higher up the slope and to the east. This loop rejoins the main trail after 0.7 km. |
