Pangea is on Avenida 7 between Calles 3 bis and 3. There are lots of high-speed computers, and the glassed-in top-floor bar/restaurant has a great view of Poás and Barva volcanoes to the north.

The pool is on the first floor. Despite the psychedelic jungle motifs painted on every inch of wall space, security is tight—guests receive plastic ID bracelets that are changed every day. Rooms are clean and set back from the street, mattresses are good.

Enthusiastic, hardworking Tico twin brothers own the Pangea, the Toruma, and a sister hostel in La Fortuna. Airport pickup is $6 to $14, depending on the number of people. Drom beds are $12.
